How I Trick My Brain Into Hitting My Goals (And How You Can Too)
Let’s be honest—staying motivated in business all the time is impossible. You can have the best intentions, the biggest dreams, and the most detailed vision board, but if there’s nothing tangible pulling you forward, it’s way too easy to fall into the “Eh, I’ll do it tomorrow” trap.
That’s why I started using a quarterly reward system in my business, and let me tell you—it’s been a game changer.
Instead of just setting goals and hoping I stay excited enough to hit them, I bribe my own brain with things I actually want. And let me tell you it works.
If you’re tired of setting goals that never quite get done, this system is for you.
Here’s the deal: Every quarter, I pick 3-5 rewards things that I genuinely want but wouldn’t normally buy or do for myself just because.
Then, I break down my big annual goal into quarterly and monthly milestones.
Each quarter, as I hit my goals, I get to pick a reward from my reward bank. But here’s the catch—if I don’t hit a goal, I don’t get the reward. And it doesn’t roll over.
That means if I was really looking forward to a spa day in Q1, but I don’t reach my revenue or project goal? Too bad. That spa day is dead. It doesn’t move into Q2. It’s gone.
And you better believe that’s enough to light a fire under me when I need it.
Look, we all love a good vision board. We all want to stay inspired. But let’s be real the future version of yourself who has hit all her goals? She feels really far away when you’re sitting at your desk right now, debating whether or not you should just take the afternoon off.
This system keeps me locked in because:
Ready to try this in your own business? Here’s how to set it up:
What’s the one thing you want to achieve this year? Maybe it’s hitting a revenue milestone, launching a new offer, or growing your audience to a certain number. Whatever it is, write it down.
This is where most people mess up they set a big yearly goal and then feel overwhelmed because where do you even start?
Break it down:
This makes your goal manageable instead of just a big, scary number floating in the future.
Now for the fun part—picking your rewards!
Choose 3-5 rewards for each quarter. These should be things that genuinely excite you, but that you wouldn’t normally buy or do for yourself without a reason.
Some ideas:
Make sure you have a mix of small and big rewards so you always have something to work toward.
Here’s the most important part of the system: If you don’t hit your goal, you don’t get the reward. And it doesn’t roll over.
This creates urgency and prevents you from slacking off, thinking you’ll just “catch up” next quarter.
Since I started using this system, I’ve noticed three major changes:
Because let’s be real waiting until you hit some huge milestone to reward yourself? That’s a long, exhausting road.
I know you have big goals. I know you’re working hard. But if you’re feeling stuck, uninspired, or like you’re spinning your wheels, maybe it’s time to make winning more fun.
Set your goals. Pick your rewards. And start creating a business that excites you.
